Discipline?

What's wrong with disciplining children and why does society have so much to say about it? I have a 3yr old and I do not beat her until she pes out. I her if she is misbehaving or disrespectful. I ed her rear (3 taps, not a full blown beating) and another customer in the store I was in said I had no patience, meanwhile his kids were loud, running around, and tearing things down and they were preschool age. I hear teens curse at their parents. I would never...even now and I am in my 30's. What's the deal? I say 'spare the rod and spoil the child.' These kids nowadays sure look spoiled to me. I my daughter rarely, but my tone of voice and judicious use of discipline has resulted in a more respectful well behaved 3yr old than most kids I see, and she's not scared of me.
