I want to start a little reef tank?

Just adding to Pleccys outstanding advice: Small volume tanks are tricky and difficult. 12 gal is not too big for freshwater. For good looking reef tank parameter stability way more important than for freshwater. I wouldn't recommend anyone start reef tank on less than say 50 gallons. If you are experienced and can keep up with maintenance then good luck.
